You don't have to guess the size
The single reason men's jewellery goes unbought as a gift is not knowing what length to order. This chain slides anywhere between 18 and 22 inches and locks where you set it, so one necklace fits from a close fit at the base of the neck through to sitting mid-chest. Shorter on a slim frame, longer over a t-shirt — the same piece does both. If he has a broad neck and likes a chain to hang low on the sternum, 22 inches is the ceiling here, so bear that in mind.
316L — the grade that matters
This is 316L stainless steel, the same grade used for surgical instruments and body-piercing jewellery, and the grade the serious men's chain brands specify. It will not rust, tarnish or turn skin green, and unlike plating over brass there is no surface layer to wear through at the clasp or the back of the neck.
On sensitivities, the honest version: 316L is hypoallergenic and safe for the overwhelming majority of wearers, because its nickel is bound inside the alloy rather than sitting on the surface where sweat can lift it. It is not nickel-free — no stainless steel is — so anyone with a diagnosed severe nickel allergy should know that before buying.
The chain and the cross
A Cuban link — flat, tightly interlocking links that lie flush against the chest instead of rolling over like a rope or box chain. It is the most-worn men's chain style there is, and at this weight it reads as deliberate without being costume. The whole necklace including the pendant is 28 grams, roughly one ounce: substantial in the hand, but not the kind of weight you notice by lunchtime.
The cross itself is 1.3 inches tall and 0.8 inches wide, built as two tiers — a raised inner cross set inside a stepped outer border, mirror-polished on every face. The step is what gives it presence at arm's length; without it a cross this size reads flat. There are no stones, no engraving and no filigree, so it works equally as a faith piece or simply as a pendant, and it won't date.
The message card is the gift
Every order ships in a gift box with a printed message card. Choose who it is for — son, husband, brother, dad, boyfriend, grandson, godson — and the matching card is printed and set behind the necklace in the box, so it arrives ready to hand over with nothing to wrap or write. If you would rather write your own, choose No message card and the box ships with a blank one in the same stock.
Care
Rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Safe to shower and swim in. Avoid abrasive polishes and ultrasonic cleaners, which dull the polished finish over time. There is no polishing cloth in the box because 316L does not tarnish — there is nothing to remove.
